HOUSTON - Steve-O in the same backcourt with Kobe?

Add the Los Angeles Lakers to the list of possible suitors for Orlando Magic
guard Steve Francis.

The Lakers are "aggressively" pursuing a trade that would send forward Lamar
Odom to the Magic for Francis in a multiplayer deal, NBA sources told the
Orlando Sentinel on Friday.

Odom, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound forward, is an all-around player lost in Kobe
Bryant's immense shadow with the Lakers. He was acquired in that megadeal
involving Shaquille O'Neal and the Miami Heat.

Odom, who is averaging 13.9 points and 9.2 rebounds, has four more years
remaining in a contract worth about $51 million.

Francis, who has three more years and about $48 million left on his deal, is
in Houston, where he has a home and is attending the festivities involving
NBA All-Star Weekend.

That would be a good move. I say we include Kwame in the deal.

lamar should be treated like Shaq used to be treated in the fourth
quarter of laker games. Take his ass out in the closing minutes. he
plays decently for like the first three quarters, but he will really
hurt you in the fourth. Not all players have the game winning shot
mentality. Lamar has the game losing play mentality.

Bynum has shown that he can at least equal Brown's output so we can
easily lose him. Gettting Francis would finally end the Smush
Experiment.

So to make the salaries work, Kwame and Luke Walton and maybe devean
george.

Whaddaya think?

God, what a horrible idea.

Maybe we can also get Stephon Marbury. Put him at the point, Francis at
2, dropped Kobe to the 3.

Remember the L.A. T-Birds??

What a terrible idea. Stevie who refused to get into a game Francis?
You got two guys who must have the ball in their hands.

Agreed - a horrible idea. Hopefully it's some
Laker-hater's wet dream. If Laker management
are actually considering this, they really are
on drugs.

Francis is good, but will he get used to the triangle, give up the ball,
and not be himself?

And the price is Odom?
As much as Odom is ineffective now, I'd rather give up someone else, but
unfortunately, the Lakers have no one to send to any team.

Steve Francis is by no means a bad basketball player, but he's not the
right medicine for what ails the Lakers right now.

Sure, we need help in the backcourt, but we need help in the front
court even more.

The problem is, the only way Taylor ever trades Garnett is if Garnett
asks himself. And historically he's not the type of guy to demand a
trade unless, and that's a very big unless, he gets fed up with the
Minnesota situation.

i heard this KG rumor on the radio ... seemed serious, but not till
after the season. the idea is that kg and mchale dont get a long, so
the owner, taylor has to make a decision. who does he want to keep. he
likes mchale, and he thinks kg wants out after the season so he wont
get him back. so, there will be a deal for kg. the question is who
will get him, nyc or lak. that is what i hears. i love my lakers, and
kg and kobe would be great.

You can give the other 11 guys on the current lakers roster, plus
Jeannie and Minny will still be too stupid to trade KG to LA.

You will need to get at least someone like Paul Piece to be deemed
sane in the league for trading away KG.

Same with NYC, these two teams are the least likely to get KG with
their current rosters.

The guy took an enormous pay cut to re-up with the team,
and this definitely is not what he had in mind. Not much
of a stretch to think that when he signed the deal, he &
Glen Taylor had an understanding that if it got to the
point that he wanted out, Taylor would accommodate him.

But to what extent will Glen Taylor accomodate him? I do know KG has a
no-trade clause which he can use to block trades to certain teams. But
I believe chances are slim if he wants to be traded to a specific
location that's also in the West.

This is all just speculation, but I imagine if he got KG
to take $100 million less for the sake of the team, he
would be pretty accommodating.

No, he doesn't.

Chances are slim, period. But the only scenario in
which chances aren't practically nil is where KG
asks specifically to go to LA, and Taylor accommodates
him.

The other issue is that the receiving team has to
cough up an awfully big check within 30 days of any
trade.

well if KG is going to NY, it will pretty darn sure that NY will have
the highest payroll team in NBA. i am telling you. I kinda feel sorry
for NY...when you get all those high salary players, and your team is
still in the bottom of the league. That's either bad managing or just
bad team chemistry.

pretty bad move....why would you trade a PF for a PG while your SG can
score....the PG rarely gets rebound unless you are Jason Kidd.
